Due to changes brought about by the 2018 Farm Bill, cannabidiol (CBD) has become more widely available in medicine cabinets in convenience stores and on the shelves of major drugstore chains.

It is natural for cannabis species to produce hundreds of active compounds. CBD is a chemical compound found in great quantities in cannabis and is one of the most widely used of all cannabinoids today. The main reason for this is that CBD may provide health benefits as well as wellness benefits.

With CBD becoming increasingly popular, people are becoming aware that not all CBD products are created equal, and not all CBD products are made from the same type of cannabis plant.

Types Of The Cannabis Plant

CBD is derived from either hemp or marijuana, two types of cannabis plants.

Oil derived from hemp and CBD products are derived from industrial hemp plants, mostly grown for the seeds and fiber they produce. There are a few differences between these plants and marijuana plants in terms of appearance; their foliage tends to be sparse, and they tend to be skinny.

Additionally, hemp differs from marijuana by its level of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a cannabinoid that makes consumers feel high.”. The 2018 Farm Bill stipulates that hemp plants cannot contain more than 0.3% THC.’

Marijuana-derived CBD is extracted from cannabis plants that have thick, lush foliage and flowers that are generally grown and consumed for their intoxicating properties. US law defines marijuana as cannabis plants that contain more than 0.3% THC. While THC is the predominant cannabinoid in most weed plants, several strains of marijuana are rich in CBD.

CBD derived from marijuana comes from cannabis plants with thick, lush leaves and flowers that are cultivated and consumed primarily for their intoxicating effects. Under US law, marijuana is defined as cannabis plants with a THC content greater than 0.3%. Although THC is the dominant cannabinoid in weed plants, CBD also features heavily in some strains.

It is crucial to note that CBD, regardless of whether it is derived from hemp or marijuana, is identical at a molecular level.
“ Whether hemp or marijuana is used for extracting CBD, its pharmacology remains the same. A CBD is a CBD, regardless of where it originated from,” explains Jeremy Riggle, Ph.D., chief scientist at Mary’s Medicinals, a medical cannabis company that makes Transdermal Cannabis Patches.

In spite of the fact that CBD sourced from hemp and CBD sourced from marijuana have the same molecular structure, the two plant types differ in certain aspects.

Hemp Seed Oil vs. CBD Oil

There are a lot of potential misunderstandings in the world of CBD oil due to the terminology that is used to describe different products. For example, you might see labels that refer to CBD as being derived from a hemp plant instead of a marijuana plant; there is also an entirely different product known as hemp seed oil.

Unlike hemp-based CBD oils, which deliver CBD and other cannabinoids or terpenes, hemp seed oil does not do so. Instead of being derived from hemp leaves and flowers, hemp seed oil comes from hemp seeds alone and does not contain CBD. Since hemp seeds contain essential fatty acids like gamma-linolenic acid, as well as other nutrients, hemp seed oil will provide different health benefits, different from hemp oil rich in CBD.

Hemp seed oil is commonly used for health and wellness supplements that have a variety of health benefits for consumers. You can usually find hemp seed oil in health food stores, natural food stores, as well as a few regular grocery stores.
